Q What is a lip filler?
A The filler is usually a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to the lips. It can also be used to lift up wrinkles or folds. The gel is usually Hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance found in the body. When the filler is injected into the skin, the wrinkle is lifted.
Q What is hyaluronic acid?
A Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout the body. It gives volume to the skin.
Q How does the filler work?
A The gel adds volume to the skin. A practitioner injects small amounts of Hyaluronic acid directly into the skin and it lifts up the wrinkle or gives more volume to the lips. Wrinkles can be raised to the level of the surrounding skin and the contours of the lips can be enhanced to the desired level.
Q What results can be obtained from lip treatment?
A The lip line (Cupid’s Bow) can be accentuated and the lips can be given more volume. Change of shape can be achieved, however, this must be discussed prior to treatment with your practitioner. Rest assured, we will not“overfill”your lips.
Q What is treatment with lip filler like?
A Treatment to enhance the lips is a very easy and quick process. Since no pre-testis needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately and takes about 30 minutes. The result is instant. The gel isinjected with a very thin needle.
Q Do injections hurt?
A No, because the lips will be numbed with a dental block.
Q Can the material be removed?
A The gel is a natural material. It dissolves with time. If you feel insecure aboutthe desired result, it is possible to have the treatment done in gradual steps on different occasions.
Q Is it safe?
A The Hyaluronic acid in the filleris almost identical to that already present in the body. It is possible to“dissolve”the filler if there is any serious problem. Immediately after, the treatment site can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result ofthe injection, and generally goes away in a day or two after the injection, and within a week after injection into the lips.
Q Are there any other types of reactions that may occur?
A Yes, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another cold sore eruption.
If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, you should be aware thatthese may increase the bruising and bleeding atthe injection site.
Q How long does the effect last?
A Since the filler is a substance very similar to your own skin, the same ongoing processes(such as ageing)that change the structure of your skin will also alter the implant. Eventually the filler totally disappears from the body. How long the effect of the treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle, age and the degree of expectation by the individual. Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after treatment(of wrinkles and folds) and within half a year after lip treatment.
Q What will my skin look like as it disappears?
A The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks like it did before the treatment. This is when you need a further treatment.
